Beginning in high school student athletes spend the bulk of their free time preparing for competition and ultimately competing in their chosen sport.  The necessary time devoted to athletics does not provide student athletes, from all educational sectors, time to plan for the life transitions they will face.  As a result, upon completion of a student athlete’s career, at any level, transitions are apparent and unclear.  Student athletes who have not developed a clear transition plan, in preparation for when they complete sports, are more likely to face adversity in several areas such as employment, graduation, social adjustments, and identity.  Consequently, how do student athletes adequately prepare for the upcoming transitions?  Whose responsibility is it to assist these student athletes during their transitions?  And how do student athletes access the necessary resources for a successful transition?

On Focus aims to provide student athletes with the transitional support services needed in conjunction with the lessons they have learned from athletic participation.  The vision of the On Focus organization is to effectively deliver the five core principles of transition through the three main support services, which include (1) Workshops, (2) Client Services Number, and (3) Personal Document Services.  The overarching goal for the future of the organization is to provide these three main services to a minimum of 80% of student athletes at the high school, community college, and four-year college level in order to prepare these student athletes for the many transitional phases of their lives.  These transitional phases are tied directly to the five core principles of transition that fuel the On Focus support services, and include Educational, Support, Planning, Exit, and Progress Transitions
